Where it started
A Grandview Avenue butcher since the early 1930s
Lampert’s opened on Grandview Avenue in the early 1930s, when every McKeesport corner had its own butcher and grocer. For more than eighty years, the Lampert family kept the doors open on the same block, with the same approach: meat cut and wrapped to order, in front of the customer, never behind closed doors.
Passed to the Kuglers
From the Lamperts to Clarence, and on to Rick and Jan
The Lampert family ran the market until 1981, when Clarence Kugler, Rick’s father, bought the business, name and all. In 1993, Rick and his wife Jan took over from Clarence and kept everything that worked: the cut-to-order meats, the Polish smoked kielbassi, the hands-on care that already had generations of regulars coming through the door.
They added a few of their own touches, too. Hungarian kolbász, hurka, and paprika bacon now sit alongside the originals in the case.
A new corner
From Grandview to Eden Park Boulevard
In 2012, Rick and Jan moved Lampert’s to its current home at 2010 Eden Park Boulevard, across from Renzie Park and right next to McKeesport High School. Under one roof: a butcher counter, a full-service deli, and a convenience aisle, all in one stop.
Today
Same standards, same family
Rick still cuts steaks, chops, and roasts behind the counter, and still tends the smokehouse out back where he makes the jerky, meat sticks, and kielbassi by hand. Jan and the team keep the deli moving: hoagies, hot sandwiches, pizza, homemade salads, and homestyle dinners through the day.
